Overview
StudyLoop's educators ran courses across five disconnected tools — video here, homework there, grades in a spreadsheet. Students dropped off; nobody could say where.
I rebuilt the experience as one platform: curriculum builder, cohort scheduling, assignments and a progress dashboard, with roles for admins, instructors and learners.
Challenge
Education data is relational and messy — cohorts, sections, attempts, extensions — and the interface had to stay simple for non-technical instructors while staying honest about who was falling behind.
Video costs and page weight were the silent risks: lesson pages had to load fast on student laptops and prepaid mobile connections alike.
Approach
- Single data model for courses, cohorts, attempts and grades
- Vue.js learner app with offline-friendly lesson caching
- Instructor dashboard surfacing at-risk students early
- Performance budgets on lesson pages and video embeds
- Accessible components meeting classroom standards
Outcome
Instructors now run entire cohorts from one dashboard, and learners get a clear path — what is next, what is late, how they are doing. Support tickets about "where do I find…" effectively disappeared.
The platform's clean data model made later reporting and certificate features straightforward additions instead of rebuilds.
